Danny Alexander Puente Proaño International Medical Graduate, MHSc candidate

A medical doctor from Ecuador with years of clinical experience working in the Ecuadorian health system. In addition to my clinical practice, I have collaborated on research in ethnobotany and phytopharmacology, rediscovering the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants endemic to the Andean highlands and the Ecuadorian jungle, with a particular focus on psychoactive principles present in those plants. I have also studied the Endocannabinoid system (ECS) and its modulation for several years, obtaining multiple certifications in Endocannabinology and advanced studies of cannabis and cannabinoids highlighting its potential to treat various pathologies in clinical practice. As an active member of the Latin-American Interdisciplinary Society of Cannabinology (SLIC), I participate in several national and international scientific committees. I have contributed to training, prevention, treatment, and harm reduction, including innovative theoretical and methodological developments. Currently, as an MHSc candidate in Translational Research, my research aims to establish the elements needed for an evidence-based training program to educate healthcare professionals mainly prescribers involved in chronic pain management about the ECS and the therapeutic use of cannabinoids.
