IPC Team Event: First Connections

Duration: 8:30 am – 9:50 am (1 Hour, 20 Minutes)

Delivery: Live Online

Description: During this portion of the curriculum, students meet their interprofessional teammates and participate in an ice-breaker game. The goal is for students to get to know each other in their interprofessional groups and begin working together as a team.

Keynote Speaker and Panel: Making Connections

Duration: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm (1 Hour, 30 Minutes)

Delivery: Live Online

Description: Speakers are invited to discuss pain-related topics. The format includes a talk from a person with lived experience, a keynote speaker, and a three-panel discussion on the landscape of pain in Canada. This panel is interprofessional and provides a high-level overview of the topic of pain, its management, and the importance of an interprofessional approach.

Profession-Specific Perspectives 

Duration: 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm (3 Hours)

Delivery: Live Online or In-Person

Description: Our eight professions (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician’s Assistant and Social Work) return to their disciplines for an afternoon of pain-focused profession-specific content. This content is tailored to each profession’s scope of practice and maps onto their curriculum.

Groups 1-20 Facilitated Interprofessional Teams

Duration: 8:30 am – 12:00 am (3 Hours, 30 Minutes)

Delivery: In-Person

Description: Case Study – Acute pain assessment of a person with acute pain.

These group sessions enhance practical skills and foster a deeper understanding of the multifaceted nature of pain management through teamwork and shared perspectives.

This joint approach enriches students’ educational experience and prepares them to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, ultimately leading to more comprehensive and effective patient management and treatment.

Concurrent Sessions

Duration: 3:15 pm – 5:00 pm (1 Hour, 45 Minutes)

Delivery: Pre-recorded Online

Description: Didactic lectures on pain-focused topics, including headaches, cancer pain, pain and indigenous peoples, and others. Lectures are given by experts in the field and feature interprofessional speakers.
